MTB Ride Locations: Top Trail Centers

Trail centers are an amazing way to get started in mountain biking—or to push your skills if you’re already comfortable on a bike. They usually feature well-marked routes of varying difficulty, supportive facilities like bike rentals and cafés, plus a friendly community of riders who are out there for the same reason: to enjoy time outdoors on two wheels! Below are my top picks for fun, exciting, and well-equipped trail centers.

Coed-y-Brenin (Snowdonia, Wales)

The iconic Minotaur forest trail.

Tucked away in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, Coed-y-Brenin is Britain’s first dedicated mountain bike trail center and still one of the best. Trails range from gentle greens perfect for families and beginners to challenging black runs. A dedicated visitor center, on-site bike shop, and café make it an all-day destination. This is a must-visit for any mountain biker! Its also our favourite area to stay as it is close to Lake Bala, which is a great place to Swim and Paddle board.

Forest of Dean (Gloucestershire, England)

The Forest of Dean is a go-to location for riders of every level. It’s well-known for its dedicated mountain biking trails with fun berms, rolling jumps, and scenic singletrack routes. Great for families or experienced thrill-seekers—everyone finds their perfect line here. The Verderers Trail is a must-ride! Regarded as the best blue in England. The Skills area is perfect for warming up and practicing some skills. Don't miss the Downhill trails, they are a great way to try the downhill style without commiting to a day out at a full on Bike park. They are short and adrenaline filled.

Whinlatter (Lake District, England)

It boasts some of the highest forest trails in England, so expect a decent workout on the climbs, followed by exhilarating downhill swoops. Don’t forget to take in the breathtaking scenery! Fly-up 417 (Gloucestershire, England)

Steeper descents and serious thrills at Fly-up 417

If you’re looking to push the thrill factor and truly test your MTB skills, Fly-up 417 can’t be beat. The dedicated uplift service means you can ride more descents per day (less pedaling, more adrenaline!), and there’s a mix of technical features to keep advanced riders on their toes. The atmosphere is electric, and you’ll often find like-minded bikers happy to share tips and cheer each other on.
